The Black Bull

This is the oldest script in the category, and it survives because it is the most honest about hierarchy. Somebody is in charge of this evening, and it is not you.

You made the introduction. You wrote the message, you suggested the bar, you told her which dress. By the time he arrives, every arrangement in the room is one you built, which is what makes it so strange when he walks past your outstretched hand and goes straight to her.

You organised all of it, and you still ended up the least important person in your own plan.

The bull is not a character so much as a function. He is certainty, applied to your wife. He does not negotiate, does not check in with you, does not perform gratitude for the access you arranged. For a certain kind of man, the kind who decides things all day, every day, being made irrelevant inside something he personally engineered is the entire thrill.

The camera is the other half of it. You are not asked to leave. You are asked to document. Framing the shot forces you to look properly, to compose, to hold still while you do it, and then to live afterwards with a folder of evidence that you made and nobody forced on you.

Notice what carries this scene: not what he does, but what she does with him. The way she stops checking your face for permission. The moment she stops performing for you and starts enjoying herself without reference to you at all.

In the app, you set the dynamic rather than the choreography: the introduction, the bar, the standing Friday, the camera in your hands. She uploads her own photos and approves the scene. What comes back is a set with all three of you in it, and you exactly where you put yourself.
